DRESS CODE
Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. It therefore follows that as we present that body, it ought to be done in a decent and respectable fashion. Our school has been established for special purposes, and endeavors to maintain the highest all-around standards.
Faith Lutheran School requires standard dress for students in Grades K-8 (not Preschool). All standard dress combinations must be gender-appropriate and worn neatly and appropriately. Parents may purchase clothing at any retail outlet or from Sue Mills Uniforms.
Standard Dress colors are:
· Shirts (short sleeve polo style): black, white, khaki, navy, royal blue, sky blue, grey · Shirts (button down Oxford): white, white w/navy stripe, chambray (long sleeve only) · Shirts (turtleneck): white, navy
· Pants/Shorts: khaki, navy, black, grey · Skorts: khaki, navy, grey · Skirt (Box Pleat): navy
· Skirt (Knife Pleat): blue/black plaid
· Jumper (empire): chambray
· Jumper (Front Zip): blue/black plaid, navy
· V-Neck Vest: navy
· All plaid skirts and jumpers must be purchased through Sue Mills.
Shirts bought from retail stores may not have any logos or printing on them. They also may not have any stripes or prints in other color.
All shirts are to have sleeves
No plain white t-shirts may be worn
Shirts do not have to be tucked in
Belts do not have to be worn
Gym shorts or jerseys of any kind may not be worn
The principal shall have the final authority in deciding what is acceptable dress on free dress days.
Appearance & Grooming Standards
1. Shirts and blouses must be tucked in at all times.
2. Shorts, skirts, and skorts must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
3. Items known to be associated as gang wear are prohibited.
4. No oversize clothing is allowed. Clothing may not be more than one size larger than the child's normal size. Uniform pieces must not be altered beyond basic hemming and adjustments for growth. The principal shall have the final authority in determining proper size.
5. No clothing may be worn which bears the pictures or names of rock music groups, references to drugs (including liquor and tobacco), or any pictures or writing that might be construed to be in poor taste or in any way disruptive to the learning process in our school.
6. Tank tops or spaghetti straps are not permitted at any time.
7. Outer coats and jackets may not be worn in the classroom.
8. Bare feet, thongs, clogs, sandals, plastic shoes, high-heeled shoes, platform shoes, and boots are not allowed at school. Any footwear that threatens the physical safety of a student is inappropriate.
9. Socks or hose must be worn at all times.
10. No permanent or temporary tattoos are allowed.
11. Hair must be neat, clean, and well groomed. Extremes in hairstyle and color will not be permitted. The principal shall have the authority to decide what is acceptable in this area. Questions should be addressed to the principal prior to the child coming to school.
12. Sunglasses may be worn only if medically necessary.
14. Students may not wear make-up. Students in Grades 6-8 may wear clear nail polish. No other students may wear any type of nail polish.
15. Sweatpants or "track" pants may not be worn.
The principal and teachers have been given the authority to make judgments and interpretations, which become necessary in the application of the Uniform Dress Code. Upon approval of the principal, the teachers may modify the above rules when a special field trip or school activity warrants such a change.
Enforcement of the Dress Code
Parents are asked to aid in supporting this code by closely supervising the appearance of their own children before sending them to school.
· The classroom teacher will deal with a first violation in consultation with the principal.
The student will be excused from class until appropriate clothing is brought from home. Any
classwork or tests missed will be completed at the teacher's discretion.
· A second violation will result in the student being excused from class until appropriate clothing is brought from home. Any classwork or tests missed will be completed at the teacher's discretion. The principal will conference with the parents to review and identify the problem and to help find a solution.
· A third violation will result in the student being excused from class until appropriate clothing is brought from home. Any classwork or tests missed will be completed at the teacher's discretion. A third violation shall be cause to bring the case before the Board of Christian Education. If a satisfactory agreement cannot be reached, the child will be dismissed from
